Capacity Building for Higher Quality Laboratory Services
Through UNIDO, MARKUP has been training laboratory staff on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017. This ISO standard specifies the general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of laboratories. It is applicable to all organizations performing laboratory activities and helps customers, regulatory authorities, organizations and schemes using peer-assessment, accreditation bodies, and others in confirming or recognizing the competence of laboratories.
'The reason why laboratories seek accreditation is so that they can facilitate trade within the country and across borders,' noted Stanslaus Masinza, Manager at Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS).
MARKUP trained, laboratory staff and quality managers of KEBS, KEPHIS and NPHL on the specific tasks linked to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 as a first step for their laboratories to apply for accreditation or enhance the scope of their testing services in line with ISO/IEC17025.
