Global GAP and Quality Management System Training to Farmers in Zanzibar
MARKUP partner Solidaridad conducted a training on Global GAP and Quality Management System for 70 farmers (51 men and 19 women) from Unguja and Pemba in July 2021. The training aimed to equip framers with the principles and practices of Global GAP, Quality Management Systems and to facilitate Global GAP internal auditing for farmers’ groups.
Global GAP certification is highly regarded for demonstrating on-farm food safety and sustainability, and compliance with Global GAP standards enables producers to sell their products both in local as well as in international markets. Global GAP certification also assures consumers that the product they bought was produced sustainably, respecting health, the environment and the welfare and safety of workers and animals.
The cohort of Global GAP trainees in Zanzibar joins farmers trained by other MARKUP Partners facilitating similar training in Kenya and mainland Tanzania.
