Building Capacity of Burundi’s Financial Institutions in Sustainable Finance
In July 2021, a training on sustainable finance was organised in Bujumbura in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for national financial institutions. The goal of the training was to bring financial institutions up to date with the most recent products and services available to finance climate-intelligent projects tailored to SMEs and how to include them in their own portfolio.
Around 30 financial sector professionals gained knowledge about maximising sustainable finance opportunities while protecting the interests of their clients and minimising the environmental risks SMEs face.
As part of the training, participants heard from representatives of several development finance institutions, and learnt how to become eligible for funding from impact investors, foundations and other institutions.
Under MARKUP, ITC has been training East Africa-based financial service providers in building a service portfolio on sustainable finance since October 2020.
